Famous Man City fans (Number 1 and 2)

Oasis

Noel and Liam Gallagher [OASIS]: NOW SOLD OUT

Possibly the two most famous Manchester City fans, Gavin has captured the Gallagher brothers in the iconic Man City kits of the mid 90’s.

Needing little introduction to Man City fans, Noel and Liam were founding members of 90’s indie band Oasis and performed a number of gigs at Maine RoadFamed for their brotherly rivalry, they have had mixed careers since the band split but their love for City remains.

The Smiths (featuring Man City fans; Mike Joyce and Johnny Marr). Available from HallyInk

The Smiths (featuring Man City fans; Mike Joyce and Johnny Marr). Available from HallyInk

If the 90’s belonged to Oasis, the 80’s belonged to The Smiths. Formed in 1982 the band had a number of successful albums until their split in 1987.

Whether football was involved in the split is unknown but the band was split 50:50 between the Blue and Red halves of Manchester.

Whilst Morrisey and Andy Roche are Reds, Johnny Marr and Mike Joyce are the famous Man City fans.

Johnny Marr

Johnny Marr (top right in Gavin’s illustration) is a musician, singer, songwriter who along with Morrisey wrote the songs for The Smiths. He has gone on to be influential in the music scene, with the NME giving him a “Godlike Genius” award in 2013.

A big blue, he performed at the 2014 CityLive preseason party.

Actually called John Martin Maher, he had trials at City as a boy and at the age of 13 was part of a band including fellow famous Man City fan Kevin Kennedy (better known as Curly Watts from Corrie).

Mike Joyce

Mike Joyce (bottom left) was the drummer for The Smiths and has since gone on to perform in numerous groups. He has also developed a career as a broadcaster and DJ.

Mike’s a big blue as can be seen from his twitter profile header featuring Zaba passionately celebrating his Roma goal from the 2014/15 season.

Famous Man City fans (Number 5) – you’ll be surprised!

The A team: But which one's a blue? Print available from Hallyink

The A team: But which one’s a blue? Print available from Hallyink

Manchester City has always been the A team (sorry!) but which one of the TV series is a Blue?

BA Baracus? Mr T pities the fool; is this a message about United fans? Probably but he’s not the Blue

Hannibal? Nope.

Howling Mad Murdoch – if ever there’s a Blue then he should be it, but it’s actually Face who’s the blue.

Dirk Benedict, played Lieutenant Templeton “Faceman” Peck in The A team and was also Lieutenant Starbuck in the original Battlestar Galatica TV series and film.

In 2010 he was spotted wearing the Manchester City white 3rd kit with the red and black diagonal stripe (think Tevez, Adebayor, Barry era).

The story behind it was that his son, who had played for Gillingham, was having a trial at Man City and Dirk was performing in the North West. Whether he stayed a blue after his son’s unsuccessful trial remains to be seen, but as a 80’s child I think having an A teamer wearing a City shirt is pretty cool!

As is HallyInk’s print!

As well as these famous Man City fans, Gavin has also done a Man City Legends print featuring Bert Trautmann, Franny Lee, Shaun Goater and Gio Kinkladze.
