A to Z of Man City Father’s Day Gifts

With Father’s day on June 18th, I’ve put together an A to Z of Man City Father’s Day gifts. So if like me your Dad or Granddad is a blue who’s been with you through thick and thin then scroll down and pick him a treat!

A is for Agueroooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

It had to be didn’t it?

To start our Father’s day gifts guide here’s 9 great ideas celebrating Sergio’s late strike. They include Ron Kirwin’s comic book canvas leading up to the goal and that magic Aguero moment.

Agueroooo 9 great ways to remember that goal.249681547

 B is for Bert Trautmann

Legendary German goalie Bert Trautmann’s book; Trautmann: The biography is the best book I’ve ever read and should be one of any City fans collection. Your Dad or Grandad will love this especially if they witnessed the great keeper play. To read my review of the book click here.

To get a sneak peek I’ve also written 10 things you didn’t know about Bert Trautmann.

C is for CityCushion

Perfect for your Dad’s favourite chair!

The CityCushion was designed by the GingerWig and Manchester based artist DaveDraws. It features loads of City references – Hyde Road, Maine Road, the Etihad, Platt Lane, CFA even Sheikh Mansour driving up the A6 in his Lamborghini!

City.Cushion.makingHandmade in Manchester by Loose Button Upholstery this is a true made in Manchester piece – Well it is our City after all!

Available from the Mancitygifts online shop.

D is for David Mooney

Author and radio journalist David Mooney has written a great book called “Looks like Scunny next season” where he tracked down all the players from the Wembley 99 play off final. The book is a series of interviews with the players finding out their recollections of the game and finding out what they’ve done since. You’ll be amazed at what happened to Terry Cooke!

Looks like Scunny next season is available from Amazon and would be a great present for your Dad.

E is for Etihad Stadium

***If your Dad prefers Maine Road carry on down to letter M***

Etihad.Cushion (2)If your Dad’s a fan of the Etihad Stadium or just needs a new cushion for his favourite chair then Jamie B Edwards’ Etihad stadium cushion would be perfect. For more details click here.

F is for Ferran Soriano

City’s chief executive was the former vice president of Barcelona where he oversaw a huge transformation in the clubs finances and sponsership. Before joining City he wrote a book called Goal: The ball doesn’t go in by chance. It’s a management style book rather than a sports book but over the last couple of years it has read as a what City will do next off the field.

A really good read if your Dad likes business books.  Available from Amazon.

J is for Joe Mercer

If your Dad is of a certain Man City vintage then Joe Mercer would have been his favourite manager. The calming influence on his maverick 1st team coach Malcolm Allison, the due put together the last side fully made of English men to win the top division in England.
51AK1T6KBFL._SL160_Football writer (and now Doctor after completing his pHD – congratulations) Gary James has written many great books on Manchester City and his book on Joe Mercer is no different.

L is for Legendsnormal_manchester.city.art.print (3)

Elements of the Blue Moon is a periodic table of Manchester City greats from the London-based artist Johnny Joannou. Taking the chemical elements as a guide each City legend has their number of appearances and goals together with their “chemical” symbol.

A great bit of Manchester City memorabilia – simple yet extremely clever. For more details click here.

M is for Maine Road

This wonderful image by We are Dorethy is part of the collection Maine Road: 5 prints for Man City fans. The stunning architecture of the Main Stand is captured under the blue moon in a vivid blue. As it was the first stand I ever watched City in, I really like the piece.

If your Dad loved Maine Road then check out the collection:

N is for New York City FC

As part of one big family you might want to get your Dad the Adidas made New York City FC shirt. Both the home and away shirts are now available in the UK, as well as NYCFC training gear from Kitbag.

O is for Old Trafford – No I haven’t lost my marbles!

Ok so it may come as a surprise that the Swamp is on the list but one of the best moments in City’s history came at the home of the evil empire. The Sick Swan game (six-one get it) is captured by Clubmerchandise.org in their ceefax mug range.

All sales include a donation to charity so do check them out. Plus they do a great range of other City mugs including a special Father’s day retro City badge mug. The mug uses the word Dad to make the image.

P is for Pride in Travel

Darryl Webster’s book charting his worldwide tour of watching games at the base of Man City supporters groups is a great read. Sure he picked the right season to do it – 2013/14 when we won the double, but the City family welcomed him wherever he went.

The book confirms what we already know, that not matter where you are if you’re a blue you’ll be welcomed. Your Dad might even be encouraged to take you with him when he sets off to copy Darryl’s tour!

Find out more about Pride in Travel in my interview with Darryl here.

Q is for QPR

QPR and Man City have a bit of history don’t they. The first Monday night Sky Sports live game, the Jamie Pollock own goal that sent us to Division 2 and of course Agueroooooooooooo!

The artists behind Art of Football were that inspired by the Aguero goal that (even though they don’t support City) they decided to capture the goal in their artwork. They have now produced two t-shirts of the Aguero goal, one showing the shot and the other of Aguero and the team celebrating the goal.

Art of Football’s t-shirts come gift wrapped making the t-shirts a great gift for Father’s day, available from the mancitygifts store in a number of colours here.

They source original kits from the era they were made, it’s not just City they do almost every club and national team you can think of.

U is for Uwe Rosler

He might now be Leeds manager but Uwe Rosler’s a Blue! A tough upbringing behind the iron curtain in East Germany probably meant City in the mid 90’s was a breeze for Uwe. His book Knocking Down Walls covers his teenage career where the East German secret police arrest him, through his time at Man City and how the City fans helped him beat cancer.

If your Dad was a Blue through the mid 90’s Uwe was one of our only bright lights and he’ll enjoy catching up with Der Bomber!

Y is for Yaya Toure

The big man has given us much to cheer about over the last few years (and a few cakes to throw at him!).

Artist Dan Leydon has produced this stunning illustration of the big man. Printed on sturdy high gloss quality paper the print is drawing attention to YaYa’s size and strength by making the frame too small for him. With his gangly arms and legs splayed out, head down, just like when he goes on one of his runs, almost poised ready to break out of the confines of the frame. Available on Etsy.

Z is for Zabaleta!!!!

Last but by no means least in our Father’s day gifts guide it’s Pablo Zabaleta.

Every man’s favourite City player. He is the City man after all!

Check out this Zaba drawing available from 9320art.com
