City Store Launches St Marks Range

City Store Launches St Marks Range

The St Marks range is based on the shirt from the photo widely acknowledge to be the team that late became Manchester City FC.

Whilst Manchester City FC was formed in 1894, several clubs preceded this. Football historians do differ in their views but the general consensus is that St Marks Gorton was the first team in the timeline. The Club themselves recognise this with the 1st photo in the timeline around the Etihad being a photo of the team.rsz_untitled_design_43

New St Marks Range

To celebrate the history of the club, and to cater for the rising popularity of St Marks shirts among the fans, the official City Store have launched four tops based on the kit from the photo.

Mancitygifts @thegingerwig took a trip to the City store to take a look

The range contains 4 different tops: a t-shirt, polo shirt, rugby style top and a zip sweater.

St Marks Gorton Collection

Common Features

All 4 have some common features – the Cross Pattee features in exactly the same size and material and is stitched around the edges, the tops all feature a cream tab with both the current City badge and Cross Pattee in black (see image below) and the inner neck tab is cream tab with just the current City badge. Personally I’d have liked the cross to be on these as well put it can’t be seen once wearing the item.

Heritage t-shirt

The most similar to the original photo of St Marks Gorton shirt – with the exception of the tab on the side and the short sleeves. The Heritage tshirt is a plain black round neck t-shirt.

Heritage Polo Shirt

The polo shirt differs slightly from the t-shirt with the collar having a small section of white on either side. I think it does add something to the design.

St Marks was a church in West Gorton and the team was formed there, probably from the cricket team who needed something to do to keep fit over the winter months. St Marks is one of 6 City related buildings on Mancitygifts City Skyline print and mug.

Can you see all the City Buildings?

Heritage Rugby Top

Moving away from the original St Marks shirt, the St Marks rugby style top features an all white collar and white rubberised buttons – a nice touch is the buttons say “City” around the edge. Long sleeves with elasticated cuffs.

Heritage Zip Sweat

A zip up sweatshirt with deep front pockets, elasticated neck and cuffs. Would have preferred a hoodie myself but you can’t have it all ways!

All four tops from the St Marks range from the Official City Store are available now online and instore.
