The winner of the Mancitygifts Euro 2016 league will win an Art of Football t-shirt from their new 50 years of hurt rangeJoin.the.Mancitygifts.Euro.2016.fantasy.league

With Euro 2016 just days away, Mancitygifts has set up a fantasy league through the official UEFA Euro 2016 site. We’ve also teamed up with to giveaway one of their “50 years of Hurt” t-shirts to the league winner.

To join in simply head to the fantasy section of the Uefa website by clicking here and then enter the code below to join:

If you’re really good the Uefa website has prizes to be won, however you’re more likely to win in our league.

Simply join the league and then write your team name on this Facebook post at Mancitygifts Facebook page. (I’ll need this to contact you if you win 😉 )

The format is very simple – you have a budget of €100 million to make your Euro 2016 squad of 15 players:

  • Two goalkeepers
  • Five defenders
  • Five midfielders
  • Three forwards

From that squad, you choose a starting eleven for each matchday, including a captain whose points are doubled.

A full list of the game’s rules is available here.

The Mancitygifts team has been hindered slightly by @theGingerWig only picking current or former Blues (with one ringer!). See who he picked below.

Art of Football’s 50 years of Hurt

The guys at Art of Football have kindly donated a t-shirt from their new range as a prize for the 1st placed person in the league at the end of the tournament. There’s a few examples below but you can see the full range here.Stuart Pearce England T-shirt Gascoigne flick over Colin Hendry 90 England T-shirt

Can you beat @thegingerwig’s team?

Rather foolishly I thought I would only pick current or former Manchester City players. I’d forgotten that many of the best current and former City strikers were not European (think Sergio, Iheanacho, Tevez). Out of all the ones available there were only two former Blues so I had to choose a ringer.

Take a look below at who I chose.

Two Goalkeepers

Joe Hart (England) and Shay Given (Ireland)

Had to be Joe didn’t it? Wales’ Wayne Hennersey was another option but he was only with us as a youngster (and was more expensive).

The Mancitygifts Team – 4 subs missing

5 Defenders

Boatang (Germany), Denayer (Belgium), Mangala (France), Corluka (Croatia), Boyata (Belgium)

Main man missing is Bacary Sagna (who I picked as my player of the season on the @CityWatch website)

5 Midfielders

It was here that I had most choice and probably my best players! I even made KDB Captain although new signing Ilkay Gundogan misses out on the Euros through injury as does Fabian Delph.

Silva (Spain), Sterling (England), De Bruyne (Belgium), Gelson Fernandes – remember him? (Switzerland), and Vladamir Weiss (Slovakia). I remember watching Weiss tear it up for the youth team. Thought he was going to be great at City but it never really worked out for him.

3 Forwards

Can you believe that out of all the strikers going to the Euros only 2 have played for City!

Daniel Sturridge (England) and John Gudetti (Sweden) were the only two – Slovakia’s Robbie Mak is counted as a midfielder in this game.

So I had to make a choice.

Do I pick the best forward I can afford? – going off the two sicknotes I’ve got upfront I’d need the best I can get!

Or do I pick a player City have been linked with? (admittedly this could be a large number of players)

I feel by picking Lewandoski I get the best of both – plus I’d really like us to actually buy him (a slight upgrade on Bony!).
